Sangengalo’s first factory premises in 1997 was located in the “bar” facilities of the now defunct migrant labour section of the old AECI explosives factory in Somerset West. The Fanagalo nickname for the bar was “Sangengalo”; which means either a “place of happiness” or “strong arms”. It was felt that this was indeed an appropriate name for a Company which from the outset sought to be a source of happiness for clients and employees alike. Strong arms are required to manoeuvre slabs of stone; and Sangengalo Marble & Granite was born!
From humble beginnings, a factory equipped with “state-of-the-art” machinery was eventually developed – to ensure clients’ expectations were met at every level. This included the ability to complete step-bull-nose edging, milled drainers and draining grooves to exact detail; as well as the completion of high-quality mitre work. As the operation grew, machinery for high-volume and complex projects was acquired. This has led to the successful completion of numerous national and international commercial projects, which remains an integral part of Sangengalo’s work.
Highly sophisticated machinery and experienced craftsmen combined with diligent procedural practice and relationship-building with clients has caused Sangengalo’s fame to spread. Their market share grew; and a relocation from Somerset West to Blackheath in 2007 became necessary. Further expansion in 2011 led to another relocation to the present custom-built factory and showroom also in Blackheath; which serves as a spring-board for great service delivery to a loyal client-base on a local, national and international level.
